In Theaters: March 27, 2015

There are TWO wide releases this weekend.

Get Hard

To be honest, this one looks kind of funny.  But the ads only show the PG-13 stuff.  And Kevin Hart is definitely a rising star in comedy.  Get Hard is about a very rich CEO-type (Ferrell) who is sentenced to prison for white collar crime, and he hires Kevin Hart to prepare him for prison life.

Get Hard is rated R for pervasive crude and sexual content and language, some graphic nudity, and drug material.

Home

It's always nice to see two movies come out in the same weekend that definitely won't be targeting the same market.

Home is a cartoon about an alien race looking for a new home.  When they have their eye on Earth, one of them befriends a human girl.  What they do after that, I have no idea.  The voice of the alien is the guy from Big Bang Theory.

the guy from Big Bang Theory

Home is rated PG for mild action and some rude humor.

In Theaters: March 20, 2015

There are THREE wide releases this weekend.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent

Just in case it was unclear that this movie was a sequel to Divergent, and a part of the Divergent series, they decided to include "The Divergent Series" in the title.  Nice.

I actually did not see Divergent in theaters, but when I finally did watch it I really liked it.  In fact, by the end I liked it better than any of the Hunger Games movies.  And after two hours of Shailene Woodley, I was like, "Who's Jennifer Lawrence?"  I really was that impressed.

Interestingly though, I'm still not completely excited for this one.  I'll likely see it, but I'm kinda feeling the same way about this as I did about Divergent before seeing it.  That is, I'm expecting good action, a story that is interesting enough, and awesome acting from Shailene Woodley.  It should be solid.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent is rated PG-13 for intense violence and action throughout, some sensuality, thematic elements and brief language.

Do You Believe?

Another in a recent string of faith-based films.  It's an expanding genre, and I think in the next few years we might even see critical success there.  The poster for this one is a little bit uninspired though, I gotta say (pun intended).

From the trailer I gather that this is the Christian version of 2005's Crash.  It's a movie about a dozen different people whose lives intersect and intertwine throughout the story.

Do You Believe? is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, an accident sequence and some violence.

The Gunman

I hate Sean Penn's acting.

This is a straightforward shoot 'em up.  He works for these guys, turns out they're bad, they kidnap his wife, he goes after them.

At least Javier Bardem has an almost-normal haircut in this movie.

The Gunman is rated R for strong violence, language and some sexuality.

In Theaters: March 13, 2015

There are TWO wide releases this weekend.

Cinderella

Classic tale, Disney release, directed by Kenneth Branagh, should be solid.  Not much else to say here.

Cinderella is rated PG for mild thematic elements.

Run All Night

Action movie with Liam Neeson.  Any questions?

Liam Neeson is a hitman and he is hired to kill Ed Harris' son.  Ed Harris gets angry and promises revenge.  So Liam Neeson and his son . . . you guessed it . . . Run All Night.

Run All Night is rated R for strong violence, language including sexual references, and some drug use.

In Theaters: March 6, 2015

There are THREE wide releases this weekend.

Chappie

In a near future South Africa where the police are all robots, there is one robot called Chappie.  For some reason this makes a bunch of people mad and they want to go destroy Chappie.  Maybe they saw Terminator and they don't want robots going all self-aware and stuff.

Anyway, Chappie is rated R for violence, language and brief nudity.  Probably not robot nudity.  I doubt they would count that.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

A few years ago a movie came out called The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and it was a moderate hit.  People liked it.  I'm sure it was a good-hearted film, but I still have no idea what it was about.  As far as I can tell the first one was about a bunch of old people on vacation (albeit they were old people played by very famous old actors).

And as far as I can tell this one is about the same old people (plus some additional old people - including Richard Gere) still on vacation.  Or maybe they live there now, I can't tell.  Interestingly, Dev Patel stars in both this and Chappie.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is rated PG for some language and suggestive comments.

Unfinished Business

Here at the Big Shot Critic Blog our mission statement has always been to tell you if a movie looks stupid or not.  That's one of many mission statements.  The other ones are things like make fun of movies whenever possible, make funny little references that no one will ever get but me unless I explain it to them, or to generally be biased in whatever way we see fit.

This one looks pretty weak.  And therefore stupid.  It's about Vince Vaughn and the small business he starts and a business trip he goes on to score a deal with a major client (Ricky Gervais) in direct competition with his former boss (Sienna Miller).

Unfinished Business is rated R for some strong risqué sexual content/graphic nudity, and for language and drug use.

I would skip this one.
