Oh, Paranormal Activity. Where to begin?
About fifteen years ago some small time moviemakers had a revolutionary idea and they made it into The Blair Witch Project. It was the world's first found footage horror movie, and it made quite a splash. There is one reason in particular the format was so attractive to producers - they are incredibly cheap to make. It took almost ten years, but somebody finally came up with the perfect (re-usable!) recipe for found footage horror, and Paranormal Activity was born. The first one cost $15,000 to produce and went on to gross almost $200,000,000 at the box office! That is unreal!
Anyway that's why they keep making these movies (it's also why they are able to turn one out every year). Don't expect them to stop anytime soon.
I've never seen a single one, because I think they are silly. I think this one looks equally silly. So, as a spin-off, I get the same vibe from this as I do the others. It will be no more, or less silly. If you like the other ones you'll probably like this one.
